Women in construction continue to redefine what leadership, resilience, and innovation look like in the industry. Kristine, Madeline, and Ruth never expected to build careers in construction. Yet within PRIME’s California operations, each of them found opportunities that encouraged growth. What began as simply trying something new soon grew into genuine passion. The challenges, creativity, and hands‑on problem solving the work required sparked a strong sense of purpose. Their path was unplanned, but it became exactly where they were meant to be. Success in construction comes from learning the work, the people, and growing from every challenge along the way.
How did you get into the construction industry?

“I was drawn to construction because I enjoy seeing a project evolve from drawings into something operational. It blends technical knowledge with real world impact. You have tangible results of your endeavors.”

“I originally joined the industry in an administrative role, but I quickly discovered how much I enjoyed the work. Particularly the process of concept ideas on paper turned into real projects. The entire process captured my interest, from collaborating with team members to building strong working relationships. I value the structure and routine my role provides, while appreciating the new learning opportunities each day brings. What motivates me most is the consistent opportunity to grow and take on fresh challenges.”

“I enjoy building systems that have a direct and meaningful impact. Over time, I found my passion in fire alarm systems because they play a critical role in life safety. There’s something incredibly rewarding about taking a set of plans and turning them into a fully operational system that protects people and property. I also appreciate the problem-solving, coordination, and teamwork required in construction. Every project presents new challenges, and I’ve always been motivated by environments where I can continue learning and improving.”
As an Assistant Project Manager at PRIME, can you tell me about your experience and what you have learned being in this role?

“My biggest takeaways so far include realizing just how essential strong technical knowledge and clear communication are to the success of any project. Working on a federal government project has also taught me a great deal of patience, especially with the added layers of review, compliance, and documentation required.”

“One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned in this role is the importance of accountability. Owning mistakes when they happen and shifting focus towards solutions. Setbacks are an inevitable part of managing projects, and navigating those challenges has helped me develop a more resilient and forward-thinking mindset.”

“Being in fire alarm has taught me how critical accuracy and compliance are, especially when working with AHJs and life safety requirements. I’ve learned the importance of proactive communication, detailed planning, and supporting the field so installations stay on schedule. This role has strengthened my leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills.”
How do you build strong relationships with your crews or teammates?

“I make it a priority to ask questions and genuinely listen to the field team. Construction can be high‑pressure, and trust and morale make a meaningful difference. Since I’m still relatively new to the industry, I’m intentional about asking for clarification and ensuring we establish a clear path forward as a team. I’ve learned that when you show respect, stay curious, and communicate clearly, it completely transforms the team dynamic in a positive way.”

“Being present- consistently, and supportively, assures my team they can rely on me throughout the entire process, not just when we’re faced with challenges. Equally important is recognizing individual strengths and giving credit where it’s due, reinforcing trust and mutual respect.”

“I build strong relationships by staying accessible, responsive, and supportive, especially to the field. With fire alarm work, crews often face tight schedules and coordination challenges with other trades. I make it a priority to listen, help remove obstacles, and follow through quickly. When the field knows you respect their experience and are there to support them, it builds trust and teamwork.”
Women in construction continue to level up, proving time and again that no challenge is too big when you combine resilience, skill, and teamwork. Everyone at PRIME is genuinely invested in each other’s success, creating a support network that strengthens both project outcomes and individual growth. As Kristine put it, “That kind of culture is invaluable—and you can’t put a dollar sign on it!”
